Cepe Paper Web vs Desktop: Which Should You Use?
Same document studio, two ways to open it. Here is when to use Cepe Paper in the browser, when to install the desktop app, and when to use both.
Cepe Paper is one document studio with two front doors. You can open it in the browser from Cepe, or install the desktop app on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
The modes are the same: documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and PDF tools. The question is not which product to buy. It is which window fits the hour you are in — and how cloud sync ties those windows together.
What stays the same
Both the web editor and the desktop app are Cepe Paper. You write, present, calculate, and export in one workspace. Templates, Cepe AI (CAI) on eligible plans, and Cepe Sign are part of the same platform, not a “web-only” or “desktop-only” fork.
Your Cepe account is the thread. Local projects can stay on a device until you choose to sync. When Cepe Cloud is enabled, you can start a file in one place and continue in the other.
If you learned the studio in the browser, the desktop app should feel familiar. If you installed first, the web editor is the same studio without a download.
When the web editor is the better fit
Use Cepe Paper online when you want to start in seconds. There is nothing to install. A school computer, a borrowed laptop, or a locked-down work machine can still open the studio in a current browser.
Web is also the natural choice for a quick edit. You are already signed into the dashboard, you need to fix a paragraph, and you do not want to wait for an installer. It is how most people try Cepe Paper the first time.
If you move between machines you do not own, the browser is the consistent door. Bookmark the app, sign in, and pick up a synced project.
When the desktop app is the better fit
Use the desktop app when Cepe Paper should live on your computer like any other studio. A native window, a dock or taskbar icon, and local projects that stay on the device until you sync are the usual reasons people install.
Desktop is the stronger default if you draft offline, if you prefer files that begin on disk, or if you spend long sessions in documents, sheets, and decks and want the app ready without opening a browser tab next to email.
Windows, macOS, and Linux builds are how we ship that experience. Licenses and device limits apply to desktop seats the way they do for other installed software — hashed keys, not a casually shared installer.
Cloud sync is how they meet
You do not have to pick a side forever. Save a project to Cepe Cloud and the same work can move from desktop to browser and back.
That is the practical answer for most people. Write on the desktop during a focused afternoon. Open the web editor on another machine to export a PDF or send a Cepe Sign link. Return to the installed app when you are home.
Local-only work stays local until you upload. Synced work follows the account, within the storage and plan limits on Cepe.
A simple way to choose
Choose web if you are trying Cepe Paper, editing on a machine you do not own, or you want the studio without an install.
Choose desktop if this is your daily machine, you want local projects and a dedicated window, or you often work when the network is unreliable.
Choose both if you already have a Cepe account and you want the same studio at the desk and in a browser. That is the setup we designed for.
Getting started
Create a free account on Cepe. Open Cepe Paper in the browser from your dashboard, or download the desktop app for your operating system. Start a document. If you want it on the other device later, save it to Cepe Cloud.
Web versus desktop is a preference about the window. The studio — documents, slides, sheets, and PDFs — is the same product either way.
