How to Create a Professional Resume in 2026 — Cepe blog cover

A resume in 2026 still has one job: get a human to talk to you. Software may sort the inbox first. That changes how you format the page. It does not change the need for clear facts.

Build the file in Cepe Paper as a document, not as a designed poster. Export a PDF to send. Keep the source so the next application is an edit, not a rebuild.

What “professional” means this year

Recruiters skim. Applicant systems extract text. Fancy columns, text in images, and icon-only skill lists are how good careers look empty in a parser.

Use a simple hierarchy: name and contact, a short summary, experience, education, skills. One page if you can. Two pages only when the work history truly needs it.

Lead with outcomes. “Cut close time from 12 days to 6” beats “Responsible for invoicing.” Dates and titles should be easy to find in five seconds.

Start from a template, then make it yours

Open Cepe Paper in the browser or on the desktop. Start from a resume template if you have one, or a clean blank document with consistent headings.

Write your facts first. Design later. A template is a structure, not a personality. Remove sections you cannot fill honestly.

Save the project. The 2026 workflow is many versions of one story, not a new file from scratch every Sunday.

Write for both a parser and a person

Use real words for job titles and skills that appear in the posting — only if they are true. Keyword stuffing is obvious to humans and noisy to software.

Avoid putting essential text in a header image or a sidebar graphic. If a machine cannot copy the line, it may not index it.

Keep fonts standard. If you used a display typeface, switch to something that exports cleanly to PDF so letters do not collide.

Use AI as an editor, not a biography

On Professional and above, CAI can tighten a bullet or shorten a summary so it still fits one page. Send the draft you wrote. Keep the numbers you can defend in an interview.

Do not let a model invent employers or metrics. A 2026 resume that cannot survive a screening call is a liability.

CAI only receives the text you send. It is not a requirement to start. Free still exports a PDF.

Tailor, then export

Duplicate the document (or save a named version) for the role. Change the summary and the top three bullets. Export to PDF.

Open the PDF and check page count, margins, and that nothing spilled to a lonely last line. If you only need to change a date later, edit the source and export again. Fighting a flattened PDF is the long way — unless the source is gone, in which case a short in-place swap is safer than a full redesign.

Send the PDF. Keep the Cepe Paper file on the machine or in Cepe Cloud.

What to skip

Skip a photo unless the market you are applying in expects one. Skip a chart of “soft skills.” Skip a QR code that is the only way to reach you.

Skip locking the only copy as a PDF you cannot edit. The next job will ask for one more bullet.

A short workflow

Open Cepe Paper. Draft from a template. Write outcomes. Tailor for the posting. Export a one-page PDF. Proof it. Save the source.

That is how to create a professional resume in 2026: a clear document, a clean PDF, and a file you can change tomorrow without starting over.
